The B100, one Saturday
Torquay to Port Campbell
We left Torquay at seven with the heater on low. The B100 was empty and the T-Cross, in official Grape Yellow, looked like a wet-weather sign that had learned to drive.
Port Campbell sits 243 kilometres west if you stay on the cliff. We stayed. The 1.0 TSI works hard out of Lorne, then calms down. Combined cycle is 5.4 L/100 km. We recorded 6.1 with two people and a boot of jackets.
The lookout spurs are gravel. 185 mm of clearance is not a 4WD number. It is enough if you keep the speed down and the tyres in the ruts. Cladding takes the chips. Paint does not.
The 40 L tank wants a stop at Lavers Hill. Skip it and you start counting remaining kilometres against a gauge that lies on hills. We filled at the general store, drank the coffee, and dropped into Port Campbell with the stacks already in sun.
This colour does not hide. On a road of grey rock and teal water it reads as a moving marker. That is the brief. A small SUV, a long weekend, and a paint code you can see from the next headland.
